In Hawaii, a lei is a symbol of aloha and the aloha spirit. Celebrating the beauty of the lei and what it represents has become an island tradition and continues to be celebrated on the first day of May each year. Like many other organizations, schools, and communities, Hale Mahaolu also coordinates a May Day event which is held at the Elima housing site in Kahului, Maui. This event is primarily for residents and guests to enjoy. Staff and clients from the Maui Adult Day Care Center are also invited to participate as their main office and center is also located at Hale Mahaolu Elima.
