Hale Mahaolu Elua celebrated its 34th annual Mochi Tsuki & Chinese New Year’s event in February 2018. In collaboration with the Elua Senior club, Elua staff and its residents traditionally prepare and sell over 800 pieces of mochi (plain, and peanut butter/chocolate). All proceeds from this sale benefit the Elua Senior Club. In addition to the mochi sale, residents partake in a Chinese New Year celebration in the community hall which includes entertainment, food prepared by Hale Mahaolu’s kitchen and a lion dance by Au Shaolin Arts from Honolulu.
