Hale Mahaolu is currently under construction with its newest senior housing complex – Hale Mahaolu Ewalu – a 61 unit senior affordable rental housing campus located at the Kulamalu Town Center Subdivision in Pukalani, Maui. At Ewalu, housing will be provided for seniors (62 years of age or older) who meet the appropriate low income guidelines. All of the units will meet ADA accessibility standards. Each unit is composed of a combined living room/dining room, kitchen, bedroom(s), and one bathroom. All units are fully accessible, within the guidelines of HUD and UFAS, to meet the needs of the elderly, as well as those who are mobility impaired.
Hale Mahaolu Ewalu will be built in two phases. Phase I will consist of 38 affordable rental housing units (36 one bedroom / one bath, two (2) two bedroom / one bath), one manager’s unit, a Senior Center – The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Upcountry Maui Senior Center, a laundry mat, a beauty salon, administrative offices, and a maintenance shop. There will also be a stubbed out commercial kitchen. The Senior Center will provide an area for residents and other community groups to socialize and participate in recreational, cultural, and/or educational activities.
Completion of Phase I is anticipated for December 2018. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2019 for Phase II which will consist of 22 – 1 bedroom / 1 bathroom units.
