Tenant Letter

Dear Hale Mahaolu Tenants,

Maui’s wildfires have brought great sorrow to our community. We are devasted to share that some Hale Mahaolu residents are among the victims of the fire. Others are missing. We must brace ourselves for more bad news in the days and weeks ahead.

Out of respect for our tenants and their families, we are not identifying any individuals at this time. But we know them as individuals. As valued neighbors and friends. We join you in mourning those we have lost – and worrying about those who have not been found.

We can report that most of our Lahaina tenants are safe, but many have lost their homes and possessions. Our staff are standing by to help. We have donated food, household goods and a small financial assistance fund available for our affected tenants. Our housing counseling team is also available to tenants to provide information and assistance with housing arrangements, maintaining housing subsidies and applying for FEMA coverage. We encourage any affected tenants who need help to call us at (808) 872-4100.

We believe four buildings – Hale Mahaolu Eono, Lahaina Surf, Komohana Hale and Crossroads – are either destroyed or heavily damaged. For ongoing updates, please visit this page.

Thank you for your prayers and words of encouragement for our community.

Grant Chun

Executive Director, Hale Mahaolu
